Asian women in the UK
This project is a series of portraits of Asian women living in the UK, with each shoot styled to reflect and celebrate their individual personalities. The images are designed to show them as their best selves, challenging narrow expectations of how Asian women are perceived. Alongside each portrait is a personal statement in which they share their experiences of life in the UK as Asian women.

As an Asian woman living in the UK, my experience has been shaped by both the richness of the country’s cultural diversity and the challenges that can sometimes come with being part of a minority. I have met many people who are welcoming and open to different cultures, which has helped me feel a sense of belonging in many situations. At times, I have also encountered insensitive or discriminatory remarks because of my background, which can be hurtful. However, these moments are not constant, and overall I genuinely enjoy living in the UK. The diversity, opportunities, and cultural exchange make it a place where I feel I can grow and learn from different perspectives.

Living in the UK as an Asian woman often feels like carrying two worlds in one heart. There’s comfort in the familiarity of culture, food, and community, but also moments where you feel quietly different, as if you’re always balancing who you are with how the world sees you. Still, that duality becomes a quiet strength, shaping resilience, deep pride, and a strong sense of identity that’s entirely your own.
